(Press. Assn.—

PRICES MUST IMPROVE IF AUSTRALIA IS TO CARRY ON MR. BRUCE COUNSELS ACTION

-By Telegraph — CopyrlghO.

OTTAWA, Friday. There was a full discussion of Dominion problems before Mr. H. H. Stevens' currency committee. Mr. Bruce lengthily outlined what the fall in prices meant to Australia, involving drastic v/age cuts, and/ifiterest reductions. So successful had been Australia's efforts that no»twrthUr standing th'e low world prices, she had increased her production hy one-third. It had been necessary to l'educe imports by three-quarters. Even _ then Australia had only just squyezed through, and was meeting her obligations with the utmost difficulty. Unless prices increased it was impossible to see how Australia could carry on. Mr. Bruce added: "Having made all these sacrifices, the Commonwealth cannot continue to make furtber drqstic reductions. She simply must gst relief by increased prices."
