Req. July 29, 9.55 p.m. -SYDNEY, Friday. Percy Wince, described 'as a ship's steward, before the Court to-day was charged with the evasion of duty on imporfced gold from New Zealand. He was remanded until August 5, bail being fixed at £50. It was stated that Wince arrived a few days a.go.bringing £350 in gold and £650 worth of brolcen . jewellery for delivery to a Sydney firm. Th'e gold was seized by the Customs of- ; ficers, and the police subsequently j took possession, intending to ship the gold back to New Zealand. Th'e principals. explained that thiey ' were willing to pay the New Zealand ; duty, but the police insisted on shipping th'e gold back to-day. However, Mr. Justice Harvey, at the instance | of Wince's principals, hurri'edly grant- ; ed an ex parte injunction on th'e j Equity Gourt, restraining the Com- j missioner of Police from exporting the gold to New Zealand.
