QUICKLY QUELLED
OUTBREEAK OF FIRE IN . BOOTMAICER'S SHOP. Swift worlc by the brigade saw an outbreak of fire in Mr. G. Kelly's bootshop opposite the fire station quelled in a few minutes yesterday just after one o'clock in the afternoon. Mr. Garriock who is the owner of the building and lives next door noticed smoke curling out from under the eaves and promptly gave the alarm. Fireman H. Anderson who was on duty dashed across the road and h'ad the engine coupled up in very brief order, soon putting out the blaze. It"seems that when Mr. Kelly went home for luneh he left a candle burning and this set fire to a box upon which it stood. . The flames ran up a wooden partition which divides the huildipg into two parts !and were making some headway when checked. Insurance on the building was £100 but Mr. Kelly's stock was not' insured. Little damage was done to ' stock or building but it was only the smart work of Mr. Anderson which prevented the whole building going up in smoke. . '
