Th'e f'.Post" at all times -welcohies correspondence from Its roaders. It must, hqwever, be clearly understood that we "accept no responsibility for the views , expressed by our correspondents. s\ X FOOTPATH PAYMENTS (To the Editor) Sir, — It is desired on behalf of the Ratepayers' Association to advise all ratepayers who may reeeive accounts from the Borough Couneil for half cost of asphalt work completed in front of their premises, that the recent Magisterial decision did not decide, or in any way deal with the liability of a ratepayer where the wofk had heen carried out over three years from the time judgment is entered in any Cohrt proceedings. This aspect oi the matter was not even considered in the reeent case as the work had been done just under three years ago. The ab o Vft— ma-i i on was cortfirmed hy Mr. Roe who acted foi* the" defendant in the case referred to and at the same time Mr. Roe informed me that some months ago the Matamata Town Board brought proceedings before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., at Matamata, claiming half cost o{ concrete footpath where the work had heen done over three years prior to action In this case the Magistrate held that the Town Board or other local authority had no claim after the expiration of three years from the time the moneys became due. Trusting that this will remove any misapprehension in the minds of ratepayers. — I airt, etc., G. C. NAUMANN, Rotorua, July 27.( Hon. Sec. Rotorua Ratepayers' Association.
