PERSUADED TO STAY
' RETIREMENT OF CHEF TO ROYAL FAMILY DELAYED. The King has p'ersuaded Gabriel Tschumi, second chef at Buckingham Palace, whose retirement was announced and who was a general favourite under the niekname of "Chummy," to retain his post until autumn He will return to duty during his retirement for special functions and also accompany the King during his visits to Cowes. Tschumi has a magnificent culinary touch. He is an excellent organiser, whether for the palace banquet or picnic lunch. His father, a Swiss professor, was killed when "Chummy" was fifteen. His counsin, a dresser to Queen Victoria, procured him a kit- j chen apprenticeship. He was the last j apprentice ever bound to Royal chefs. ' Queen Alexandria specially liked ' him. He treasures many Royal gifts, ' and has met numerous distinguished visitors to the Royal Family from everywhere in the world. He keeps his recipes strictly secret.
