TWO KILLED BY MICE
GNAWED GAS PIPE Mice gnawing through a gas pipe caused the deatlus of Mr. William Fiddes, aged 67, anJ Miss Elizabeth Fiddes, aged 69, his sister, at their home in St. Bernard's Cresceht, Edinburgh. Mr. J. Russell, the landlord, got no answer when he knocked to collect the rent. As the door was unfastened he went in and found Mr. Fiddes dead in an armchair and his sister dead on the floor. Worlcmen from the corporation gas department found that a pipe under the floor had been gnawed through by mice, thus allowing the gas to escape and, it is believed, to cause the two deaths. The a house was lighted by electricity, and gas had not been used for some time, but the old gas pipes had not been removed.
