STOCK YARDS

MINISTER PROMISES SUPPORT FOR REMOYAL TO BETTER SITE

A definite statement that he was in full sympathy with tha objects of the speakers and that he would approach the Railways Board in support of the requests, was expressed by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. A. Hamilton) in response to a deputation yesterday which asked that the stock loading yards at the Railway Station should be removed across Fenton Street to a site on Government ground. Mr W. H. Wackrow voiced the ideas of the Rotorua citizens who felt that it was not by any means desirable that loading yards should be in close proximity to the main tourist route between Rotorua and Whakarewarewa. There was a very suitable area on the Te Wairoa Road only a quarter of a mile away which if it were used, would obviate the passage of any stock through the Borough, thus easing the work of not only the drovers but of the shippers. He also pointed out that should the East Coast railway cease operations, the whole of the stock from the back country between Rotorua and the Coast would again conie out through the Rotorua railhead, and it would be an added advantage for the Te Wairoa Road site to be put into use. The Minister said that as a fapmer he recognised the justice of the deputation's contentions, and would place these before the Railways Board with his support.
