DISCOURTEOUS

HIGH SCHOOL HEADMASTER COMPLAINS OF PUPILS' CONDUCT. Complaints at the casual attitude of some of his pupils on leaving the school, and a charge of negligence in replying to correspondenee on the part of some of the parents was voiced by the headmaster of the Rotorua High School, Mij. W. G. Harwood, in his monthly report, which was presented to the Rotorua High School Board at its meeting last evening. The Board decided that it could take no action, but that the very fact of the publication of the complaint might bring their discourtesy home to the parties involved. The paragraph in the report dealing with the matter ran as follows: "The casual manner in which some ■ pupils take their departure cannot call for anything but dissatisfaction. I feel that the least courtesy due to the staff and myself is some officia| notification of withdrawal. Not ihV frequently letters I have written toi parents asking definitely whether th3 child has left, have remained uh* answered. In many cases the- pupil has left merely to stay at home, and I feel that all the training in discipline and habits of work which we have sought to give has been more or less wusted. There can he no doubt that, in these days particularly, the child is far better at school than idling at home." ?
