-By Telegraph — Copyright).
! CHRISTCHURCH, Monday ; The Christchurch , Unemployed Committee decided to make a strong ■ protest to the Prime Minister, the ' Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, and the Unemployment Board, against the holding up of , work on the Lewis Pass Road, and ; urged that authority be given at an f early date to carry out the work at ' once. j It was stated at the meeting that 1 the Board had agreed to the work ! on the road as providing suitable : work for single men, but there had been a hitch, and now, after camps had been prepared no men were to go to the work. j It is believed that the Railway j Board interfered to stop the construcj tion of the Lewis Pass Road on the | ground that the opening of the road I to Westport, would deprive the railj ways from Arthurs Pass to GreyI mouth of some revenue.
