SUSIE TOLHURST PRAISES STANDARD OF GAME IN BRITAIN

WELLINGTON, Thursday. Among the Tamafoa's passengers from Southampton to-day was Miss S. Tolhurst, of Melbourne, golf champion of Australia for two years in succession, who is returning home after competing in the British womcn's open championship. She qualified in twentieth place out cf sixty. She defeated Diana Fishwick in the first round and Virginia Van Vie in the second round, but was beaten in the third round by Mrs Clark. She says women's golf in England is of a very high standard, and a prominent feature is the large number of young players. She will defend the Australian title next month.
