FAILURES DUE OFTEN TO FAULTY RUBBER Most failures of suction-operated sc:een wipei*s are due to faulty rubber tubing. Sluggish action may also show need for lubrication. Some wipers are easily taken apart, but if this is not the case many will suck up oil through the tube if they are worked by hand, but not through the full range, so that the valves are operated for the return stroke. Castor oil is better than mineral oil if the'washers are of leather. Use a short length of waste tubing. Streaky wiping is usually caused by insufficient pressure on the glass or a perished rubber strip. A new blade of the best type, made from several thin strips, is easily obtained and fitted. If the wiper is electrically driven, ca:efully follow the oiling instrueticns, as too much oil may interfere with its action.
