RUGBY SUB-UNION

TWO ROTOITI CLUB PLAYERS SUSPENDED FOR SEASON NEXT SATURDAY'S DRAW The usual weeky meeting of the Rotorua Rugby Sub-Union was held last evening, the president (Mr. T. S. Robertson) occupying the chair. "The referee of the junior match between Waikite and Horohoro reported that fifteen minutes after the scheduled starting time the teams were not ready to commence, neither side being able co provide a ball. The president remarked that at the commencement of the season it had been agreed that each club should provide a ball each Saturday and on his motion it was decided that championship points should be lost by both teams. The application of three senior grade players, C. Young, R. Martin and N. Waugh for regrading to Junior B resulted in the applications of Martin and Waugh being approved. Members considered that Young was too good a player for the lower grade suggested. A letter from the Waikato Union advising the date of the next meeting of delegates resulted in the question of the union's representation being left in the hands of the president and secretary. In speaking on the appointment of a delegate, Mr. A. G. Cottrell pointed out the inadvisability of appointing a permanent delegate as a time might occur when the union desired to be specially represented. This prineiple was approved and it was decided that the appointment of a delegate should be deferred in the meantime. Reports were received from the managers of the Rotorua representative teams for last Saturday, and the selector commented on the play of the Peace Cup team at Matamata, remarking that the forwards upheld their reputation but that the backs were generally weak. He appealed to' the club delegates to assist th'e union in improving the back play of the teams. Mr. L. Clark said that he had been very disappointed with the disp'lay of the team, but stated that every assistance had been given the Matamata players by their union, which he said had only been. possible by the support accorded that union by the public. He considered that if the same support was forthcoming from the Rotorua public, the union would be enabled to provide training facilities for its team. The draw for next Saturday's games is as follows: — Senior Waikite v. Kahukura, No. 3, 2.45 p.m. Ngongotaha v. Whaka, No.' 2, 2.45 p.m. Rotoiti v. Hikuwai No. 1, 2.45 p.m. Junior A High School v. High School 2nds, High School, 1.30 p.m. Ngongotaha A v. Old Boys B, No. 4, 1.30 p.m. At the conclusion of the meeting the •executive went into committee on the diseussion of the report of the referee of the High School versus Rotoiti Junior match last Saturday. The referee reported having ordered off J. Maru and another member of the Rotoiti team and also that the Rotoiti team had walked off th'e field. The union decided to suspend the offenders for the remainder of the season.
