INCREASE IN TAXATION MENTIONED BY MINISTER

CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The Mayor, Mr. D. G. Sullivan, received a telegram to-day from the acting Minister of Employment, th'e Hon. Adam Hamilton, stating that- ari increase in the relief rations -has been granted, to be given only if ji further increase in the unempioyment taxation is imposed. It * was even doubtful, the Minister stated, whether the present scale -of relief could be maintained without an increase in taxation. . c. - The Minister's telegram Vas iil 'eply to Mr. Sullivan's communication, following a conference held in Christchurch to consider the Government rationing scheme. Mr Sullivan intends to call the eon"erence together again and consider ;he Minister's telegram, and discuss ;he possible steps to assist in securing more adequate relief for those in aeed.
