CHANCELLOR'S WORDS

A FURTHER EXPLANATION RUGBY, Friday. A further statement, issued from Downing Street, deals with the misunderstanding* which has oecurred abroad regarding the reference made by Mr. Neville Chamberlain in the House of Commons on Monday to the conversation held at Lausanne with the American representatives. This statement points out that the Chancellor "did not suggest — and had no intention of suggesting — that the representatives of the United States had approved, either tacitly or explicity, of what was done at Lausanne. The proceedings there were throughout on the basis that the right course was to seek a European solution of reparations without involving the United States in discussion."
