DAIRYING RETURNS

RESULTS FROM CAMBRIDGE FACTORY SHOW A DECREASE. DIFFICULT MARKETS. Afi exeeptionally dry season and the financial inahility of farmers to keep their herds up to standard were responsible for a 32; per cent. reduction in the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Co. last season, according to the ehairman's report. The quantity of butter-fat handled by the company during the season just closed was 3,842,1971b, which was manufactured into 2860 tons of cheese, 751 tons of creamery hutter and 86 tons of whey hutter, as compared with 3260 tons of cheese, 82 tons of whey hutter and 694 tons of- hutter for the previous season. The report goes on to state that the markets for both butter and cheese throughout the season have been most diffieult and the direetors had again relied upon a consignment policy as the safest course to follow. Butter prices, ranging from 92s to 124s, have on the whole been lower than last season, but on the other hand cheese had not shown the variation in price of last season. The Season's Pay-out. Substantial surp-luses in the hutter and cheese profit and loss accounts allow of final estimated payments being made as follows: — Butter. — Average advances, 10.l89d; final payments, 1.24d; total 11.4-29d. Cheese. — Average advances, 11.039d; final payments, .735d; total, 11.774d.
