WHAKATANE, Tuesday. The following team has been chosen to represent Whakatane in next Saturday's representative football match against Te Puke to be played on the Whakatane Domain: — McFarland, Meroto, Connolly, Harawira, McGarvey, Nuku, Steve Mfta, Morkel, Graham, Hyland, Pile, Mason, McGougan, B. Mate. Emergencies: G. Mate, G. Oswald, Moody, Tai Wharewera. Brass Quartette Contest. The Whakatane Citizens' Band has taken the initiative in organising the brass quartette contest for members of the Bay of Plenty bands to be held in the Winter Show buildings, Whakatane, on Wednesday, September 7. The movement has been taken up with enthusiasm by other bands in the Bay, and already sufficient entries have been received for the senior and junior events to assure the success of the contest. A committee of local citizens has been formed to carry out the arrangements. This will be the first band contest to be held in the Bay of Plenty.
