RIFLE SHOOTING

COMPETITORS NOW ATTAINING VERY SATISFACTORY STANDARD. The Rotorua Miniature Rifle Club held its weekly shoot on Monday night at the Drill Hall. This also included the competition for trophies in the second series. The shooting is now approaching a very high standard, which is proved by the unusual number of good targets returned. Twenty-two competitors scored 60 or over. Following is the list of those who obtained 60 or over: — W. Winslade 66, W. Donaldson 66, B. Murrell 66, H. Whitley 65, E. Lowe 65, W. Bates 65, W. Chambers 64, G. H. Weir 63, J. Fairley 63, H. Biddle 63, W. Currie 62, R. Price 62, H. Montague 62, J. McAlees 62, F. Stewarc 62, R. Smith 62, S. Walker 62, W. Beazley 61, P. Allen 61, T. McElroy 61, J. Brownlie 60, W. Hollis 60. Trophy Winners. A grade: Highest aggregate, best four out of six shoots, W. Bates; highest score off rifle, B. Murrell; highest score with handicap, H. Montague. B grade: Highest aggregate best four out of six shoots, R. Price; highest score off rifle, J. Fairley; highest score with handicap, H. Biddle; second highest score with handicap, E. T. Johnson. In the A grade, seven members tied for second highest score with handicap, each obtaining 67 with their handicap. So far six members have shot off, and E. Lowe is leading with 68. Monday next being an off night, it was left to the members to decide what competition would take place, and the majority decided on a self handicap, which proved very popular on the last occasion. The entry fee will be sixpence and the value of trophies will be decided by the number of entries. A large attendance is expected, many members thinking that they can give themselves the right number of points to make up the possible. Anyone exceeding the possible will lose two points for every one over 70. Therefore on this occasion, all members have to do is to put their names on the board and select any handicap they desire.
