DAMAGES AWARDED
YOUNG LADY CLAIMS £1000 FOR INJURIES IN CAR ACCIDENT. , • SYDNEY, June 2. "There is a saying that a young lady's charm is her good looks, hut isn't it a fact that her charm is her brightness of demeanour " asked Mr. A. V. Maxwell, K.C., during an address to the jury in' the Banco Court to-day. "This young lady," he added, turning to Otholene Keith Strachan, who was claiming £1000 damages from his client, R. H. Lawrenson, for injuries received in a car accident, "has displayed a charm that is in no way affected by the accident. And — isn't she just a beautiful, attractive girl?" "There is certainly a permanent scar," he added, "but do you think a girl of her age is going to have nervous effects from the accident?" Mr. Hill (for the girl) submitted that any young girl was very conscious of her appearance and that his clienjt would feel uncomfortable in evening dress at parties and dances. She was entitled to compensation for this. Miss Strachan, whose legs and forehead were scarred as the result of the accident, was awarded £50 by the jury.
