BERLIN, Wednesday. Herr Thomas Bata, a Czecho Slovakian millionaire and a shoe manufacturer, was killed when his private aeroplane crashed near Zlin Moravia. Flags were flown at half-mast throughout Czecho Slovakia as a tribute to Herr Tho'mas Bata, whose name is a household word throughout the country. He was regarded as an industrial Napoleon. He was the son of a eobbler at Zlin, where he worked in his father's shop. He started a small factory with 50 employees and seized his opportunity during wartime, and by 1917 was employing 4000 hands. His Zlin factory at present is producing 130,000 pairs of boots daily. He also had factories in France, Switzerland and England. He paid his 17,000 employees the hest wages in Czecho Slovakia and provided them with houses and entertainments. He is reported to have made £10,000,0,00 in the last 10 years.
