-By Telegr^ph — Copyright)
LONDON, Wednesday. A Treasury order just published, imposes a duty of 20 per cent. ad valorem from July 15 on imports from the Free State. The items covered are: Live animals, butter, eggs, cream, bacon, pork, poultry, game and other meats. Duties will not be chargeable on any imports which are shown, to the satisfaction of the Customs- commissioners, to have been imported into the Free State in the same condition as exported. The Cabinet's last act before dispersing was to convene a special meeting to impose the duties. The actual Whito Paper was not tabled until 10.55 p.m., just before the House rose, and it came as a eomplete surprise. The severity of the duties was equally . surprising, but they were unanimously welcomed by Government supporters.
