D. Stuart; vice presidents, MesI dames Downey, Morrice, Grant, Hird, ! and Quirk; secretary, Mrs. C. Flem- ' ing; treasurer, Mrs. A. Sinclair. The retiring committee was re-elected with the addition of Mesdames MeDiarmid, W. Burton, and Kibblewhite. j A i-report upon hospital ivisiting during the year was read by Mrs. Wilson, and adopted. It was decided to meet on the first Monday of every month, at 2.30 p.m. A vote of thanks was extended to the matron for her courteous treatment of visiting members. | The matron (Miss Roberts), in expressing her thanks to the league, 1 pointed out that the hospital was for the care of the sick and suffering, and that the nurses knew how very'much the little "wants" given by the league were appreciated. The statement of accounts showed a total expenditure during the year of £117 18s lld, and a credit balance in hand of £43 17s 4d. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the president stated, inter alia: Membership has been well maintained and the interest and enthusiasm shown has resulted in a very successful year's work. As is usual we are deeply indebted to the Opotiki public for their warm support. At the first meeting last year we voted £10 towards new bed linen for the hospital, and we were then faced with the necessity for raising more funds. Mr. Burton (late headmaster of Opotiki District High School) very kindly came to our aid and offered 50 per cent. of the proceeds of a concert, which was highly successful, and the handsome sum of £17 18s 8d was handed to the secretary (Mrs. Fleming) as our share. In August new crockery was neaded at the hospdtal, and it was purchased at a cost of £34 13s 4d. At the same time, the matron required new screens for the ward, and Mr. C. Hambly very generously made and pregented the screens free of eharge. Winceyette was bought and made into garments for patients' use in hospital, and We are very grateful to those ladies who so daintily made up the material. Our street stall in November realised £30 7s 6d, and we greatly appreciated the courtesy of Messrs. W. Oakes, C. Shalfoon, and E. Boyce in allowing us the use of the arcade. Part of this money was used to provide 3 baby outfits for the hospital, also 75 yards of sheeting, and three dozen towels. At Christmas we decided (owing to the prevailing qonditions) to dispense with the usual custom of a gift to each patient in hospital, and put all money possible into necessities. The singing of the combined choirs on Christmas Eve, conducted by Mr. Hilford, and the beautiful service by Mr. McDiarmid wero' mUch enjoyed. Strawberries and cream were provided for the patiehts on Christmas Day. During the summer Sheep Fair, our ladies attended all day at -the sale yards, and served tea at 6d per cup, the sandwiches, scones and. cakes being given by members and friends — the effor't netted about £5. In March a very jolly garden party was held at the residence of Mrs. Sinclair, -when the matron (Miss Roberts) puid tribute to the work of 'our1 league. Magazines and other reading mat-

ter, also old linen, have heen donatqd and all though the year our members have visited the hospital taking^ gifts of fruit and cigarettes to the patients. The committee organisecj a -very well attended bridge evening on May 4th, which added over £11 to the league's funds. . • A special meeting was called- in June to consider a letter from the Hospital Board asking for 6* pairs of new blankets for the hospital and two dozen towels for the niirses' home. In acceding to the request, we felt that if we could help to provide warmth and comf ort * for the sick and suffering, we were to that extent justifying the aims of our league. Just recently Mrs. M. Roberts moved from Opotiki; she was ..one of our keenest workers, and ofir best wishes go with her and her family to their new home. Mrs. Roberts was farewelled and received a small memento at the home of th.e president.
