Dwindled Incomes. "People in the cities do not realise just how hard the farmer has heen hit," remarked a Wanganui business man recently, when the position of the man on the land was being discussed. "I can cite the case of one man," he continued. "He is the owner of some 500 aeres of first-class land, on which there is no mortgage. Several years ago this farmer could count on an income of from £1000 to £1500 a year, and made his commitments aceordingly. During the last 12 months his profits from farming just failed to reach £150. That farmer's plight if he' had a mortgage of even £6 an acre on his land may well be imagined," concluded the business man.
