AUCKLAND, Saturday. Special advice has been received from Wellington concerning what i'S understood* to .be the basis of 'siefllement in the Waikato miners digphte. ..V 1. "Hire and Fire" clause.— The ; men conceded the right, of the management o"f shortening hands, incurred under tra'de cdriditions, the owners undertaking to inquire intri any -cases of alleged victimisation. The* owners agreed that in the re-engage-ment of labour preference he given to ex-employees. 2. "Stone in coal." — In lieu of £ fine of 3d for every* 71b. "of stone in any skip (which"' wat to he applied to the niinef^' medical fund:) it agreed" that after suitable warnihgs "ha'd been issued and thh ti'nioh had been advised, the men Cohcel'hed would be liahle to siispension or dismissal for a cb'ntinilance of the offence. '• 3. "Depth of HeadingS.'.'r — A grade of one in ten was agreed to. 4. "Wet Places." — The owners' proposals were agreed to "regarding rates of pay ' for ' wet places, and those of the men regarding the qualifying trme, naihely six hours,"hack to h'ac"^, instead of seven hours. 5. "Minimum Wage."- — Th'e minimum wage is to be reifistated subject to certain l'imitatiOh'sv • 6. "Household Coal." — The suggestion of the miners that the cost of household coal should be 6s a ton was a'dopted. No intimation is available as to when the agreement is to be ratified or terminated.
