CANBERRA, Wednesday At the resumption of the Premiers' Conference, the Premier of New South Wales, Mr. B. S. Stevens, replying to the warning by the Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, that all Governments must be prepared to made drastic cuts in deficits next year, said he hoped to he able to reduce the N.S.W. estimated shortage by £4,000,000 a year. hg emphasised that hy straining at excossive economy they might damage the national position. Ile strongly advocated scientific adjustments of tho exchange in order to h.elp the primary producers. Mr. Forgan Smith, Queensland, intimated that he would do everything in his power toward halancing the budget, but urged the revision of the Premiers' plan. He pointed out that despite the Premiers' plan, budgets were still unbalanced. IJnemployinent was on the increase in all States and the state of confidence was as far off as ever. Eeonomies themselves could not possibly estalilish budget equilibrium. This could only he done, he added, by the restoration of parity between values and prices.
