(To the Editor.) Sir, — May I- congratulate the Rotorua Borough Council on its decision firmly and unanimously to oppose the action of the Railway Department in erecting a manure dump in the centre of the town. Their attitude is one which every citizen will heartily uphold. During certain prevailing winds there are already sufficient of smells in the vicinity of the station. The Government's only excuse for permitting such a disgrace, might be in the hope that on the arrival of visitors by train, they might momentarily imagine the pervasion to be issuing from thermal activity. On inquiry the travellers will find the cause and they will probably return home by service car rather than face it again. The powers that be are again killing the golden goose, which this time has laid a rotten egg. I am, etc.,
