REMOVAL OF TREES
ENTRANCE TO OIL COMPANY'S DEPOT IN FENTON STREET BLOCKED. ALTERATION TO CULYERT. At Wednesday night's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council the Atlantic Union Oil Company wrote asking that a gum tree in front of their right-of-way in Fenton Street be removed. The company also stated that the culvert which had been constructed was in a very unsuitable position for the entrance of trucks to their depot. They asked that the culvert should be removed and placed in such a position that it would be in alignmentr with their two concrete wheel tracks as shown on a layout plan submitted to the council. Cr. O. H. Coleman did not approve of the indiscriminate removal of these trees. He required more evidence to show that the right-of-way could not be used without the removal of the tree. The general committee should investigate. Cr. W. Galbraith moved that the tree be taken down and Cr. A. Smith seconded. Cr. G. Urquhart supported Cr. Coleman's suggestion which was treated as an amendment and carried. As it was proposed to place concrete strips across the footpath the Mayor thought the, alteration to the culvert should be eonsidered by the works committee. Cr. W. Wackrow thought there should be a full width of concrete on the footpath instead of two strips. On the 'motion of Cr. A. Smith, the works committee will report upon the question.
