WINTER SHOW

ATTENDANCE SHOW S~* DECREASE ON FIGURES FOR ! ? " -f; LAST YEAR EXHIBITION PRAISED For the final day of the ^totoru^ Winter Sfiow the attend.ance was- not quite so large as for the corresponding day last year, but this has coptfa as no surprlse, and the association has no reason to feel disappointed ftt the result. With the prevailing. de-f pression and the inability to spend freely on amusement, it was only to be expected that there woiild be a small falling off in the patronage of the fixture, but it is extremely gratifying to know that wide-spread appreciation was expressed at the display made. Accepting the belief, however, that normal times will feturn to the Dominion before long a lesson should he learned from this year's exhibition. The district can, unquestionahly, provide material for display equal to any part of Ne\v Zealand, and if the puhlic can be attracted,' the shdw should be developed into, a most valuahle advertisement for Rotorua. But it is evident that if this is tb he accomplished more spaee ' must he "pro.vided, not only for the exhihits, but also for the side shows and, ainuspr ment attractions whieh are so essential in winning popularity. If it can be shown that a show can gather the people together in large" numhe^s the exhibits and amusement will follow and progrqss in importance become assured. More Amhitious Display The arrangements were excellent so far as circumstances permitted, hut the opinion was freely expressed by those who attended that the general excellence of the 'exhibits justified more amhitious display. : It has been demonstrated that the goods can he produeed, and the proyision of adequate facilities for po--pularising the show seems advisahle. The attendance yesterday- included large numbers of school children with their teachers and they- spent a pleasant and instructive time among th'e exhibits. ^ ' The radio operating stall was agaiji in full swing and proved a very pbpular feature of the show. During the evening session, the Majestic Orchestral Quintette provided i delightful programme of mttsic whieh helped to enliven the evening, As a finale an old-time dance was held in the Majostic Ballroom difd largely attended. In addition to t|e dance a 500 tournament was held aiid fully 80 people sat down to the tables. Outstanding results in various septions are puhlished on Page 6. ...
