"A DISGRACE"

railway department action in erecting manure; " " shed opposed. " SHOULD BE AT KOUTU The general conanaittee of the Rotorua Borough Council reported last night that it had protested to the General Manager of Railways and the District Engineer against the proposed erection of a manure* shed on the railway reserve on the site of the cattle yards adjacent to Fenton Street. The shed was to be used by the Native Department for the storage of manure. Cr. E. T. Johnson said the shed was a disgrace to the community. While the borough was endeavouririg to improve the town it appeared that the Railway Department ' could put up any old thing they liked. ■" The Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) said the council had entered protests-and vMr. J. W. Mawson, Dir ector £ bf Town Planning, was also making representations. The council had no redress. While the council was- doing what it could to improve the town the department was erecting a shed which aoaiglat contain hundreds of tons of manure which naight be snaelt right down to Whaka: ' He would like a motion that a protefet he sent to the Pa'iane Minister, the Native Minister, and tlie General Manager of Railways. -J Cr. W. Galbraith moved in that direction. *• ' •' Cr. O. H. Coleaaaan suggested that in the event of nothing being done a public aneeting be fealled. Cr. W. H. Mackrow held that the bowser stations should never have been allowed in the plantation. It was not playing fair with Rotorua in cutting down the heautiful plantation trees. The stockyards, bowsers, and cattle yards could easily have been plaeed at Koutu. Cr. Johnson; If the railway department wants us to help the railways it ' should be prepared to help Rotorua. The buildings are a disgrace to the town. The anotioaa to protest was carried unanimously.
