PARTNER'S EVIDENCE

(Press. Assn.-

GIVING GOODE "A PRESENT"

— ' By Telegraph — Copyright).

Rec. June 22, 9.50 p.m. SYDNEY, Wednesday. William Sinclair, former partner of F. E. Vernon, gave evidence that Vernon told hina, when tendering for a cartage contract with the Railway Depai-tment that it might be necessary to *'fix" Goode. Witness expressed resentment at that sort of thing, and asked Vei'non what he meant by "fixing" Goode. Vernon replied "Give him a little present." Toward the end of 1930, Veamon told witness that he had given Goode a cheque for £100, and the latter had endorsed it. When Vernon discovered that the police were investigating the contract, he broke down and cried. He was so upset, he felt like shooting himself. Sinclair said that Vernon eventually bought him out. The hearing was adjourned.
