Rec. June 21, 7.55 p.m. SYDNEY, Tuesday. Charles Joachim Goode to-day appeared before. the Royal Commission which is inquiring into charges of mjsconduct against him while an officer of the Railway Department. Mr. Sha'nd,. K.C., assisting the Royal Commissioner, questioned Goode about accounts paid by him in 1928. Mr. Shand ; specifically asked Qoode if -he had received from Mr. Vernon, railway , cartage contractor, a cheque for £100,, which. he, Qoode, had endorsed. Gopde sa,id he declined to answer on the-grounds that he might incriminate .himself. . . Mr. Shand: Have you ever had any dealings. -witli Mr. J. B. Davis, cartage contractor? Goode : I decline to answer as it may incriminate me. Mr. , Shand asked other questions of a like nature, all of which Goode refused . to answer. "We may have to get some ialteration ip this Commission," added- Mr. Shand. Sydney Edward Vernon, railway contractor, was then asked a series of „ questions aboqt some cjxeques, particularly one of £100 paid over in 1928. Mr, Vernon_ also refused to answer qn the- ground that the answer. might incriminate him, Witness continued that he had vi^ited Goode's house, but Goode had never yisited his house.
