MOTOR TRANSPORT.
Statistics supplied by a leading tyre company show the remarkable progress which has taken place in the use of motor passenger transport in Britain during recent years. Ten years ago there were only 649 motor huses operated by municipal authorities . in Great Britain — these vehicles travelling in 1921 8,989,000 miles, and Carrying 73', 890, 000 passengers. Iu 1931 5020 motor-buses served routes totalling 4562 miles, travelled 143,722,300 miles, and carried 1,006,424,500 passengers. In addition 428 ti'olley motorbuses, over routes of 153 miles, covered 12,881,340 miles, and carried 129,039,306 people. It is inte'resting to compare the relative operations and revenues of the municipal bus and tramway systems for 1925 and 1931. Tramways were operated hy 100 municipalities in 1925, but the number had dropped to 82 by 1931.
