UNION JACK BANNED
CPress. Assn
ORDER OF I.R.A.
. — By Telegrn,ijh—Cripyrlgtit).
LONDON, Monday. Although probably there are more visitors in Dublin from Britain than any other country for the Eucharistic Congress, correspondents say that not a single Union Jack is to be seen in the city. The 'Irish Republican Army demanded that one which was hoisted at Sherborne, one of Dublin's most exclusive hotels, should be hauled down. Half a dozen flags of other nations are flying there, and the manager protested that as many of the residents were English he was entitled to honour them. The demand was reiterated, and, fearing repi'isals, the manager had to comply. The word of the Republican Army, which is still an illegal organisation under the unrepealed Cosgrave Act, has become the unwritten law. The Irish Times comments bitterly that Archbishop Bourne will look in vain for the flag of his country among the thousands flying in Dublin.
