A. AND P. SHOW
To-mofrrow will witness Ithe opening of the tenth annual winter show of the Rotorua A. and P. Association, and all indications point to a new record for exhibits being established. In more closely settled and more in'tensively farmed districts, the A. and P. Show is an event with a capital "E", and while the show .complex is something which is cultivated best in a more generally agricultural community, there are abundant signs that the Rotorua show is each year becoming more of an established institution. Various factors have contributed to this growing appreciation of the exhibition. The most important, undoubtedly, has been the steady agricultural development in the district, and it is this development which Iias been reflected in the greatly improved standard and numbers of the exhibits. Added to this, has been the revived interest in the association and the growing recognition of the fact that Rotorua has a very definite future outside the sphere of its tourist attractions. The annual A. and P. exhibition of a district, is in a sense, an expression of that district's agriultural personality, and its standard is a reliable indication of its progress. Tt should be unnecessary to dwell upon the value of an energetic Agricultural and Pastoral Association in forwarding primary producing activities, but unfortunately, that is an aspect of A. and P. exhibitions which is often ignored. A bright and well-organised
show bringing together the soil wealth of the district, is more than a spectacle; it is an object lesson and a definite assistance to the farming community. But in addition to that, it is a social occasion, when the units of a scattered rural community are brought together for what, in the true sense of the phrase, is an educational holiday. Theenergy which the Rotorua Association has brought to the organisation of this year's fixture, has had its reward in the record response from the exhibitors. It now only remains for that fickle individual the weather clerk, to bestow his blessing, and the success of the exhibition is assured.
