roberton cup TANIWHA AND SHAMROCKS NOW LEVEL ON POINTS. SATURDAY'S RESULTS. The concluding round of the Rotorua Ladies' Hockey Association's Robertson Cup eompetition was played at the Government grounds on Saturday afternoon. Despite the recent rains, the ground was in good order and conditions at the commencement of the matches were favourable. During the second spell, however, heavy rain commenced t'o fall, and it was found necessary to abandon the games before the full time had been played. Defeating Whippets, who were playing short, by five goals to nil, Taniwha are now equal with ,Ahe Shamrock team, in the leading position for the Cup; the final will probably be decided later in the season. A close game was played between Mourea and Hinemoa, the score when the match was abandoned during the second spell being one goal to nil in favour of Mourea. Results at a glancc. Taniwha, 5 goals, defeated Whippets, 0. Mourea, 1 goal, defeated Hinemoa, 0. A Close Game. There was Very little between the Mourea and Hinemoa teams, although matters immediately after the commencement, were slightly in the favour of the latter side. However, an infringement which occurred in the Mourea half gave the latter team their chance and play was trans-ferx-ed to the Hinemoa twenty-five. I. Herewini, however, was playing a safe game at centre half and cleared for her team, the ball going to R. Hohepa, who made a good run on the left wing, but was later penalised for off-side play, K. Rae clearing for Mourea. Up and down play, in which K. Rae was prominent in defence for Mourea, followed, the latter team having a slight advantage territorially. Frequent penalty corners were awarded against Hinemoa, and from one of these R. Ipu scored for Mourea f ollowing a tussle in the Hinemoa goalmouth. Spurred on by this reverse, R. Hohepa made a dash up the left wing for Hinemoa and a scramble ensued in the Mourea circle, but a shot with which F. Ratana found the net was not allowed, the ball having been hit from outside the circle. Mourea were attacking when the half time whistle was blown with no addition to the score. Maintaining their advantage in the second spell, Mourea made many atoacks on the Hinemoa goal, M. Rikihana conceding a series of corners. However no score resulted, and just prior to the game being abandoned, Hinemoa carried play into the Mourea circle, where^ an obstruction spoilt a likely chance. Heavy rain then commencdd to fall, and the game ended with the score unchanged. Mourea 1 goal, Hinemoa nil. Whippets Outclassed. Fielding a team of only seven, players, Whippets were unable to place much opposition in the path of the Taniwha side, and were on the defensive throughout the match. Good work in the back line, however, was done by J. Stonehouse and N. McKibbon, and J. McKibbon saved her goal on several occasions. T. Wharekura. led the Taniwha forward line in her usual capable manner and reeeived valuable assistance from L. Hato. The Taniwha backs were seldom called upon to prove their capabilities, and were mostly playing well up field. Heavy rain also caused the abandonment of this game early in the second spell, when the score was 5 goals to nil in the Taniwha team's favour. ;
