A. AND P. SHOW
OPEN'ING this week RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED FOR THIS YEAR'S EXHIBITION. HIGH STANDARD MAINTAINED The Rotorua Agricultural and Pastoral AsKoeiatjon's tenth annual Winter Siiow wiiich will be opened hy Mr. -C. II. Clinkard, M.P., in the R.M. Buildings, on Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 p.m., promises to be one of the most successful efforts which the association has staged in Rotorua. Increased entries have been reeeived in every section with the exception of the poultry classes, and a new record has been set for the show. In the fields section, it has been found necessary to provide an extra 500 square feet of table room to accommodate the exhibits. An inspection of those already on hand reveals a most encouraging standard and indicates the productivity of the soils in the Rotorua district. Poultry Entry Good Standard. Although thirty less birds have been entered in this year's poultry classes it must be remembered that last year there were classes for district ehampionship in two most popular breeds, which naturally commanded la rgesupport. However 150 birds will be on exhibition in this ■ season's show, the quality standard being well up to that seen last year. The numerous other sections are also well up to standard, while the exhibition of work done in the primary schools section, will without doubt attract the interested attention of parents as well as the public. One of the main novelty attractions of the show will be the facilities provided by the Rotorua Section of the N.Z. Amateur Radio Transmitters for the despatch of messages of greeting to the relatives and friends of patrons in any part of the world. These messages will be transmitted in full view of the public to a series of relay stations as far distant as America. Owing to atmospheric conditions, however, it may be found necessary to delay the sending of messages to England and the Continent until after nightfall. Orchestra Engaged. Due to the amount of space necessary to stage a gymnastic display, the association unfortunately finds it to be impossible to provide for an exhibition by the members of the Rotorua Gymnastic Club as had been hoped, but the Majestic Quintette, a ctring orchestra of well-lcnown capaMlities, will be in attendance chvoughout the two days of the show. Judglng of the various exhibits will be commenced at 9.30 a.m. on W:,dnesday and will be completed and the winning exhibits ticketed, in time for the opening at 2.30 p.m. the same day. The receiving stewards will be in attendance at the show buildings to-morrow evening and also Wednesday morning until 9 a.m. After that time no further exhibits will be reeeived. • The concluding attraction in connection with the show will he an Old Time Ball to be held under the auspices of the association at the Majestic Ballroom, on Thursday evening, when lovers of the old time style of dances will be specially catered for by the provision of appropriate music.
