INVERCARGILL, Friday. It is understood that negotiations between the Southland sawmillers and a big English motor body building firm for the supply of approxiinately 9,000,000 f-eet of silver beech, have advanced a further stage. A definite order for a sample of the timber has been placed hy the English firm, and the consignment is expected to leave Southland next week. Not only in England, but also in Australia are there bright prospects for remunerative trade in timber. Commonwealth firms are now heginning to place orders in large quantities. Negotiations have been re-opened with manufacturers, whose doors have been closed for the past 18 months.
