Mr. Sean MacEntee, Minister of \ Finance, said that extra taxation I would be avoided if the Dail united I together to secure the remission of payment to Great Britain by withh|ilding £100,000 in vespect of the Irish Constabulary pensions, and £60,000 in respect of local loans, in addition to £3,0.00,000 eonnected with land anpuities. • He addqd that he believed the Free State would secure these remissions if the Qpposition would back the Government up. Political circles believe that Mr. de Valera's note to the Secretary of State for the Dominion, Mr. J. j H. Thomas will be despatched tonight, dealing with the Free State's reason for withholding the land an- | nuities.
