REPUBLICAN NQMINATION BY OVERWHELMING MAJORITY. * THE VICE-PRESIDENOY.

CHICAGO, Friday. At the Republican Convention today Mr. H. C. Hoover made a. qlean sweep of the first and only roll call, getting 1126J votes out of 1154. The other nan^es put fqrward were Senator John Blaine (Winsconsin) , 13; Mr. Coolidge, 41£; Mr. France (a former Senator) and Mr. James Wadsworth (New York), and the former Vice-President, General Dawes, 1 each; three delegafions did not vote and one was ahsent. The Convention spent nearly all the coneluding session shouting Mr. 'Hoover's praises. Vice-Presidency. In the initial roll-call for the VicePresidential nomination, Mr. Curtis was just shoi't of the 578 needed to nominate him, but the Pennsylvania delegation of 94 changed its vote, giving him the victory. The nomination of Mr. C. Curtis was anti-climatic. Five other names besides his were offered for nomination,/ and the roll-call gave a scattering vote to the six The others included the Ameriean Minister to Canada, Mr. Mclnder, who received 178, and General Harbord (chairman of directors of the Radio Coi'poration of America), 161; but, in the Vice-Presidency, as in the platform and other phases of the Convention, Mr. Hoover's will was pai'amount. It is no secret that a direct telephone wire from White, House dictated the choice of Mr. Curtis, as it dictated ihe worlcing of the prohibition plank. The Convention adjommed sine die, but not without sending good wishes and affectionate greetings to Mr. Coolidge, and informing Mr. Hoover of his nomination, and receiving word from him in return pledging himself to continue to labour as he has hitherto lahoured to meet the effects of the world-wide storm.
