SUGGESTED ACTION AGAINST NEW GUARD LEADER FOR SEDITION
— By Telegraph — CopyTight).
Rec. June 16, 11 p.m. SYDNEY, Thursday. The New Guardsmen appeals were further heard to-day, when two more were dismissed. Two are still to be heard. During the proceedings to-day, Detective Alford told the story of his investigations into the activities of the New Guard". He stated that the organisations consisted of 100,000 drilled and armed men, with the avowed object of throwing an armed cordon of New Guardsmen around the approaches to the city and plunging the city into darkness. They would overthrow Parliament, take possession of all Government Departments and set up a dictatorship. This decision had heen urged on March 3, but because certain members were unwilling to agree to the scheme, it had been abandoned. Detective Alford said he had corroborative evidence of the plan and the Police Department had recommended that proceedings be taken against a certain leader of the New Guard for seditious conspiracy.
