Something like 2,000,000 American women are being supported by alimony which is paid by hushands they have divoreed, the total annual amount probahly exceeding £150,000,000.^ It was ' estimated that the British beer duty imposed last Septemher Would yield £10,000,000 a year, hut up till the middle of March it had produced £1,800,000 only. It was then credited with having placed 75,000 persons on the dole.
