SIXTH DAY
THE JOHNSON CASE WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The case in which Mrs Elizabeth May Johnson is claiming from insurance companies, entered on its sixth iay this morning. Under cross-examination her husband admitted that in the case of two of the receipts the men shown as attesting witnesses were not present when the receipts were signed by Mrs Johnson, nor had Mrs Johnson acknowledged the signature to them in their presence. Edwin Leonard Goodman, in the 3,mploy of Johnson, admitted that there was a conversation in the room at the Bowen Street Hospital at the time the document was signed, but he could not recollect what the conversation was about. He knew there was not enough money in the banlc to pay wages until £500 was paid in. For the Commercial Union Company, Herbert Philip Mourant, public accountant and hand writing expert, said that in his opinion the signature on the receipt for the money from the Commercial Union was in the hand writing of Mrs Johnson. His ipinion was the same in respect of the :hree or four other documents which le was asked to examine. The hearing was adjourned until Thursday morning.
