BRITISH DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAMME. Miles Mander, acclaimed by mariy as the cleverest of our actors allowed to remain in England, directs . Madeleine Carroll in an exceptionally capable manner in "Fascination," wbicb opens Thursday at the Majestic Theatre;. "Fascination" is a triangle drama, depicting the story of a young. married man who becomes infatuated with a charming actress and temporarily lapses from th.e straight ^.nd narrow path, but.is, eventually persuaded to return . to his forgiving wife. Yet he has beeri cad enough to suggest that the two women share
him. . . A note of comedy enlivens the film and Kenneth Kove, as the blase man-ahout-town, .,further .enhances his f eputation. The settings of the film, showing the English countryside, are woi'thy backgrounds for excellent acting. ........ At .last a film can be seen in British cinemas which is not a trib.ute to the heroism of the American nation, but which, without exaggeration extols the heroism of our own men. "Men Like These," a title chosen by the critics at.a private show of this impressive picture of the dangers men face in submarines, was evidently inspired by the loss of the Poseidon, but in no way does it pretend to be a reconstruction of that tragedy, It shows just what happens when a submarine is rammed by a steamer. Six officials of the Admiralty to whom t.he film has been shown have expressed enthusiastic approval of it. The Admiralty, throughout the making of the film, gave the director, Walter Summers, . every assistance, and lent Captain Bruce as naval adviser.
