NOTES ON THE PLAY
The following notes on Saturday's Inter-school basketball matches between Rotorua and Matamata High Schools are of interest: — The game between the A teams was a fast one in which there was good passing by both sides. Matamata scored first, getting 2 goals in the first few minutes, but after that the home team took charge and most of the play was at their end. The forwards were in good form and threw goals in rapid succession, the score at half time being 7 — 2 in favour of Rotorua. In the second half, the play was largely at the Matamata goal, but their forwards were unable to find the hoop, and the home defence played a good game to send the ball back to centre. One of the Matamata forwards was unfortunate in not being able to score, her jumping being a pleasure to watch. The final score was 14 — 2 in favour of Rotorua. In some respects the match between the B teams was better to watch than the A game, as the B team specialised in the low swift pass which is the best play. The half time score was 5 — 2, and the final score, 13 — 4 in favour of Rotorua. The meeting between the junior teams of the two schools was the closest game of the day, and was a good hard-fought contest between evenly matched teams. The goal throwers of the home team showed considerable promise and should in time be valuable members of the school A team. The half time score was 4 — 2, and the final score 8 — 5 in favour of Rotorua.
