FURTHER WORKERS' PROTESTS ' TO MINISTER OF EMPLOYMENT.
— By Telegraph — Copyrlght.)
WELLINGTON, Monday. Further complaints of the non-ds-i j tribution of ratiohs to unemployed i relief workers were ' made to the ! Minister of Employment, the Rt. Hon. | J. G. Coates, to-day by the "United ! Front of Unemployed Relief Workers : Ofganisation" deputation, claiming to represent the majority of the re- ; lief johs in the city. Replying to the deputation, Mr. Coates said emphatieally that the relief workers were receiving more now than under the old scheme, and that the expenditure on rations alone had increased by nearly £50,000 under the new scheme. The claims previotisly made on hospital boards nowhere approached that sum. In mentioning this he was taking into consideration the increased number of unemployed. The Minister said that only by. m_aking close investigation into the' aplilications for relief could he satisfj^ the people who were providing\ money. He said that more hforieyj Was required; the amount being re--, ceived was insufBcient. *
