ST. JOHN'S AMBULANCE

OPOTIKI C0RPS FORMED A meeting of the brigade was held in the Fire Brigade social room on Thursday night for the purpose of forming a branch of St. John's Ambulance Brigade. Dr. Budd (hon. . suf geon to the brigade) gave a most interesting and instruetive lecture dealing with the need for such a body, the various services i of the organisation to the publie, and : the various branches of first aid'work. It was dccided to proceed with the formation of the local branch at once' as all fifteen members of the brigade were very enthusiastic. Dr. Budd has kindly consented to act as lecturer and instructor, and it is hoped that the first lecture will he held on Thursday night next at the Fire Brigade social room. The first course is a series of six lectures after which it is expected that members will gain the certifieate. This is followed by a further six lectures which should enahle members to obtain their medallion. The value of such a body in Opotiki cannot be over estimated and the brigade deserves to be complimented on its iniative and enthusiasm in forwarding the movement. It is very encouraging indeed to find that Opotiki does not lack young men who are willing and anxious to work and study as the members of the brigade have done and are doing, with a view to instructing themselves and rendering valuable service to the publie.
