INTER-SCHOOL GAMES
ROTORUA BEATS MATAMATA AT BASKETBALL AND RUGBY The annual Rugby and basketball matches between the Rotorua and Matamata High Schools were played on Saturday afternoon in perfect weather, before a large crowd of spectators at the High School grounds. The Matamata 1st XV. defeated the Rotorua 2nd XV by eight (a converted try and a try) to nil, after a hard game which was mostly confined to the forwards, neither back line showing to much advantage. The Rotorua pack did very well against a much heavier combination. The Rotorua 3rd XV had a good win against the Matamata 2nd XV, and the Rotorua Junior High School team easily triumphed over the Matamata Junior team, Rotorua's backs proving too good for their opponents. In the basketball contests, Rotorua had three wins against Matamata. The Rotorua A and B. teams easily defeated the corresponding Matamata teams, and Rotorua also had a win, after a close game in the Junior High Schools' contest.
