June 12, 5.5 p.m. | BRISBANE, Sunday. | The State elections resultecl in the \ defeat of the Moore Government and ! it is regarded as certain that Labour j will have a majority of about four in ! the new Parliament. The early morn- : ing results disclosed that Labour Lhad won 31 seats, Government Party | 22, Independent one, douhtful eight. | Neither the Queensland Party, Lang- ! ites, nor Communists won a seat. i The present tigures revealed a pro- ! nounced swing against the Govern- | ment, particularly in the metropolitan • area, where in cases the Nationalists ; majority completely vanished, and in ! others dwindled so perilously that j ritting memhers were not the least j optimistic about the prospects of rej election. | So far two Cabinet ministers have : gone down, including Mr. MacGroardy i Attorney-General and Mr. H. Atherj ton, Seeretary of Mines. The Pre- ( ! mier, Mr. Moore, however, is safe. { The Labour Leader, Mr. Forgan I Smith, has a substantial majority. i Labour so far has not lost a single ; seat. | The present state of the parties is: [ Government 27 Labour 29 Doubtful 2 .
