UNDER THE CAR

METHOD OF WORKING. Even with modern cars it is sometimes necessary to get underneath to carry out some repair or adjustment. Attention to details will nicfke the job a good deal less unpleasant. If the floor is of cement or other cold material a few layers of newspaper is one of the best mats on which to lie, while some kind of cushion under the head will reduce fatigue. Working in such a position the hands and arms soon become tired, and if not rested may develop cramp. A short period of complete relaxation at frequent intervals will enahle the j work to be done quieker and better. | If you have a pair of goggles wear j them to prevent dust falling into the eyes. Otherwise it may be necessary \ to work at an awkward angle, To j keep dirt qut of the hair, an old felt j hat with the brim cut off is comfort- ! able and effective. To allow comfortable space under j a low car it is often necessary to raise it a few inches with a jack under the running boards. Should it be necessary to work under a car with a wheel removed, the greatest care should be taken to guard agairist the car falling, extra support being given in ease ofthe jack slipping. In the ease of a fairly heavy car do not rely upon bricks to support it, as they are liablo to crack.
