Dog Nuisamce Before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., yesterday morning, the case of Frank Crosland, charged with keeping a number of dogs which had become a nuisance to the public was further considered. A fortnight had been-al-lowed defendant to get rid of the dogs, and Mr. Burton, for the prosecution, stated that this had now been done. Only the slut and pups remained, which was within the law. The premises were also in a satisfactory state. A fine of £1 was imposed, with costs 10/- and solicitor's fee £1/1/-. Bonus Issue The poliey-holders in the Government Life Insurance Department, who have just reeeived their annual bonus certificates, should feel very pleased with the result of the year's operations. In spite of the depression, the amount distributed exceeded that for the previous year, and with the amo.unt added to the existing large reserves, the office is in a j strong position. ! Injured Moiarist » | The condition of Mr. Gavin Omrod, 1 of Herne Bay, Auckland, who was injured in a motor accident at Tirau on Saturday evening, is still serious. It will be reealled that he was brought to King George Y. Hospital suffering from severe head injuries, sustained when a car in which he was a passenger, skidded and struck a bank. Erection of New Theatre. It is understood that the delay in proceeding with the erection of the new picture theatre in Rotorua is due to the fact that the Government has not yet issued the necessary license. Building operations will he commenced immediately the permit is available. Old Pants For New The paragraph in yesterday's issue of the "Post" concerning the relative merits of patching pants. and roads, recalls a true story of an incident in the early history of Rotorua. A roadman working some distance from the town decided to pur- ; chase a new pair of drill trousers to | replace the rather hedraggled pair : which had given him service for some : time. Unahle to leave his rural fasti nesses, he handed two shillings to a i friend with a request that he purchase him a pair of trousers suitable to his needs. (Two shillings was all that was required to purchase a pair | of trousers in those happy days.) The ; friend duly purchased the very necessary garments and handed them over. Three days later, however, he retumed to find the remnants of the sartorial splendour hanging on the bed and the roadman proudly displaying his old and historic garments patched baclc and front with the new material. Meiallmg of Intersection Work is at present being carried out by the Rotorua Borough Council staff on the intersection of Hinemoa and Hinemaru Streets. The unpaved section, which for some time has been in a bad condition, is receiving a coating of metal, and the pot-holes and wash-outs are being filled up. Rod and Gun Club The Rotorua Rod and Gun Club, which has carried out considerable work in the district in forwarding sporting matters, will hold its annual general meeting on Thursday evening in the Citizens' Club Rooms.
