SHOW BUILDING

OFFER TO PURCHASE SYLVANA CABARET DECLINED BY COMMITTEE NEW BUILDING FAVOURED The question of erecting show buildings was further discussed by the Rotorua A. and P. Association executive committee last night, when consideration was given to the offer made by Messrs Lloyd and Quinlan to sell for the sum of £1950 for removal and re-erection, the Sylvana Cabaret. The president, Mr. H. P. Ford, said the building committee had inspected the site and building and had decided to ask the architect for a report upon the proposal and to give a comparative estimate of the cost of an entirely new building upon similar lines. The architect had submitted his report, and upon consideration, the committee had passed the following resolution: 'That this committee 's of opinion, after inspecting the building and obtaining a report from the association's architect that it would be preferable to negotiate for a new structure, and that the offer of Messrs Lloyd and Quinlan in its present form be declined." Cost of Building In the course of' his report the architect, Mr. E. La Trobe Hill, said he had estimated the approximate cost of a building of the size indicated and confonning more or less, to the design submitted, erected in standard new materials of medium quality, sueh as he believed to be the intention to use in the offer submitted, and was of opinion that such a structure could be secured for the sum of £2350 or £2450. The fioor space proposed was 11,000 square feet, including a

poultry building with a floor are'a of i 1580 square feet. The balance of the space would be allocated as follows: Main hall. floor, 8,100 feet, cloakrooms 288 feet; office, 180ft, kitchen, 228 .feet, ladies and gentlemen's lavatories, 192 feet, ticket office and entrance, 264 fifeet; back passages, 168 feet. Mr. E. T. Johnson expressed satisfaction with the architect's report, and thought for the salce of an extra j £500 it was quite wise to obtain a new ; building. He moved that the action of | the committee in declining the offer j be endorsed. | Mr. C. Burrows seeonded and the motion was carried.
